The Lemon Blossom is a computer malware worm that affected Microsoft Windows computers in May 25th, 2004. It was a very fast paced virus that damaged thousands of computers, being as bad as the Mydoom and ILOVEYOU viruses.
It starts off as looking like a simple email that reads "Lemon stand near you!" stylized as if a kid made it. Since people suspected that a kid made it due to how it looked, no one thought anything of it and ignored the email. But what they didnt know is that just by clicking the email and looking at the contents, the malware worm hybrid already spreads into the computer. It starts slowly as it enters the computer's wifi system (if they are connected) and later on it'll finally lock down the computer with a yellow screen of a pixelated lemon image that reads in yellow wording in Russian, "Send me 60 rubble". If the victim doesn't comply with the demand, their computer shuts down and becomes unusable with a screen that says "You can't get rid of me because this screen is locked forever.". It then sends all the computer user's private info to the person who made the virus without the user's knowledge.
The sole purpose of the malware/worm was to try and steal money from millionares, billionares, etc.. But they didn't get any of them. The virus was suspected to be created in the software Linux.
The virus was made by 17 year old Craig Winchester, a kid who just graduated their senior year in high school who specialized in computer science and was known for being an activist of alot of movements, including making signs of politcal slogans like Eat The Rich.
The Lemon Blossom Virus is sent through an e-mail appearing as a letter that reads "Lemon stand near you!". If the e-mail was even clicked on without clicking any attatchment connected to it, that's when the execution started. It re-sends the virus to e-mail addresses connected to the user. If the user had Kazaa, the virus would send itself to the peer-to-peer sharing folder to spread.
The virus only stays as a hidden worm inside the computer until at least a span of five minutes. In that five minutes, the screen closes out all tabs, making clicking anything inaccessible. It blocks access to any sites and online antivirus websites by modifiying the user's file. As long as the user is connected to the internet, the virus locks down all access to any browser. It then closes the screen out and locks it on a yellow screen with a yellow background. It has a lemon image that says "You're never getting rid of me because this screen is locked forever.". It then crashes the computer to the computer boot system screen and the computer doesn't work anymore because of the overheating system.
